FG Reveals Cost Of Preventing Coronavirus From Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has noted that the country would require N620m is in order to prevent an outbreak of coronavirus.

The deadly virus which started in China last year has moved from China into other countries, including the united states.

Briefing the Senate Committee on health on what is being done to prevent the outbreak of the disease in Nigeria, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, said the ministry submitted a memo proposing for the release of the sum of N620m to take proactive measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

He further stated that a multi-stakeholder meeting to deploy port health services to screen passengers entering Nigeria was held by the ministry.

The senate, however, expressed concern that the Chattered flight passengers wing of the local flights that arrived at the airports were left ou in the screening, adding that the virus can be imported into Nigeria through this oversight.

Consequently, the Senate ordered Ehanire to deploy health officials to the private tarmac and conduct screening of VIPs on chartered flights.

Recall yesterday, it was reported that the first case of Chinese deadly diseases coronavirus has been recorded in Ghana, after an Argentine and a Chinese national reported to Korle-Bu Teaching hospital under the directive of a private hospital in Accra.

Also, the Speaker of the House of Representatives Rep Femi Gbajabiamila had warned the Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu against downplaying the level of seriousness and dangerous nature of  the coronavirus
