Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo is excited after being named the new assistant coach of the senior national team of Nigeria.

The 2013 African Cup of Nations winning captain was appointed as assistant gaffer to current technical adviser Gernot Rohr on Wednesday.

A move that will see the 2002 Korea Japan World Cup revelation replace Imama Amapakabo, who was not handed a new contract following the expiration of his former deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Reacting on his latest appointment, Yobo took to his Instagram handle, on Thursday, February 13, to declare that he’s honoured with the opportunity.

“Delighted to announce my appointment as the new assistant coach of the Super Eagles,” Yobo penned on Instagram.

“I’m honoured to be given this opportunity to serve. I’m ready and looking forward to this new chapter.

“I’m grateful to God. I thank you all for your overwhelming love and support since this announcement, it means a lot,” Yobo stressed.

The former Everton ace is expected to join Rohr’s technical crew in March when Nigeria play host to Sierra Leone in 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
