The National Judicial Council (NJC) on Wednesday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The NJC made this known by Soji Oye, spokesman of the council, after its emergency meeting held earlier today.

The Council also recommended names of judges to President Buhari to appoint as Chief Judges and Grand Kadis for eight states – Lagos, Anambra, Ebonyi, Niger, Taraba, Kano, and Jigawa states.

The NJC praised the president for his unequivocal position on the financial autonomy for the state’s Judiciary.

It also called on various state governors to, as a matter of urgency, begin its immediate implementation.

Naija News recalls that Justice Tanko Muhammad was appointed acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) after the suspension and subsequent resignation of Justice Walter Onnoghen.
