INEC REC Appeals For Calm In Kano State
There has been an appeal for calm among residents and indigenes of Kano State by the INEC Resident Electoral Commission, Prof. Riskuwa Arabu.
The appeal follows the disruption of the collation process at the Nasarawa Local Government Area Centre, in the early hours of Monday which forced a suspension of the process.
According to him, the commission was determined to ensure that the processes and procedures were followed in collating and announcement of the final results later today.
Arabu said, “The results from 10 wards out of the 11 wards were collated in Nasarawa Local Government before the disruption.
“We have invited the representatives of all the political parties to witness the regeneration of the results as we enter it into the necessary forms since they also have copies of these results from the polling units up to the wards.
“I can assure you of our commitment to do what is right and we will be fair to all. We appeal to the political class to support us and cooperate with us.”
As earlier reported by Naija News, the disruption resulted in the arrest of the Kano state deputy governor, Nasiru Gawuna and the Commissioner for Local Governments, Murtala Sule Garo.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had suspended the collation of gubernatorial election results for the Saturday’s Governorship election in Kano state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Prof. Riskuwa Arab-Shehu made this known after the collation of results from the 43 out of the 44 local government areas in the state, revealing that the suspension of the collation of results was necessary because of the reports of the security challenges in the state.
The battle for the Kano governorship seat is a straight battle between APC’s Abdullahi Ganduje and PDP’s Abba Kabir.
